Exclusive Interview With, Ember Haynes of Watering My Flowers fame - Hosted by Marcus Vaughn

Ember's Story is an imperfect, complicated romance that challenges our boundaries.

INTRO:

Work-driven, Ember harbors an internal clock that moves only four times a year. Once in Winter, once in Spring, and twice in Fall.

These are the seasons when she becomes restless... Realizing there is something missing that food, money, nor work can satisfy.

Only one thing detracts from the emptiness - a brief affair. Nothing clingy, complicated, or lasting - just a "scratch-that-itch," kind of connection. Only this time, things are different.

Let's welcome Ember, Haynes, who has joined us today to shed light on

Gregory Happens.

MV- Welcome, and Thank you, Ember Haynes for being our guest today. I know you are a busy best-selling author, 3x over. ... And the immensely popular podcaster of "The WRITE Stuff!" Welcome."

"Let's jump right into this book buzz, surrounding, "Watering My Flowers."

Ember- "I'm ready, (she says, smiling.) Let's go."

MV- "Tell everyone, what happened when the lucky Gregory Fenton entered your life?"

Ember "Well, it was a hot day. So I stopped at a roadside cafe to get something cold to drink. When my waitress finished taking my order, I spotted a gentleman two tables away. He was very handsome, therefore, I immediately started doing a mental checklist."

MV- "A checklist?!"

Ember- "Yeah... You know...

  • Well groomed ✓.
  • Clothes, neat, clean. ✓.
  • Smile... (She hesitates-caught up in the memory.)

MV- "Go on."

Ember- "By the time I reached his smile, he was looking at me looking at him."

MV- "That sounds awkward."

Ember releases a short-girlish laugh.

"It was...

He invited me over to his table to sit with him, and by the time I got up, the sun was rising. I knew we would see each other again."

MV- "Wait a minute. Not you! You got a rep for being a play-uh play-uh in these parts, Champ!"

Ember- "You're bogus, Marcus. But I will pay you back on my show - count on it."

MV- "I'm sorry. But you know it's true!"

Ember- "Anyway...

Whatever happened between me and Gregory that day, I never saw it coming.

It was strong. And, to tell the truth, I was scared."

MV- "Of what?"

Ember- "Men make women messy-emotional. How could I stay on top of my game thinking about a truck driver who probably had a woman in every state?

MV- "How do you know?"

Ember- "Because things got rocky."

MV- "Don't they always?"

Ember- "A woman came to my house asking for Gregory."

MV- "There's no easy way to say this: But I saw the video .

That couldn't have been easy.

Ember- "Right again."

MV- A lot of people said they would have knocked Thelma Davis on her ass!

I know my woman would!"

Ember- (Ember smiled, shaking her head)- "My sister said the same thing. But I was in a state of shock... I couldn't believe how she just showed up at my door."

MV- "Shock, my behind! You should have made her think twice about coming to your door!"

Ember- "MARCUS VAUGHN, I'm going to knock YOU out!"

MV- Well, we gone go ahead and wrap up this interview with Ms. Ember Haynes, before my sister hurts me (he chuckled.)

Bonus Background

About character, Thelma Davis.

HAVE YOU EVER?

Have you ever had a woman come to your home and claim your man as her own?

I have-sorta-kinda.

That’s where the above scene in Ember’s Story got its legs.

It was a sunny summer mid-morning when my man got a call. The look on his face was sheer panic/fear.

“My father is sick! “ he declared.

It was a ball out of nowhere that I fumbled miserably.

“What do you mean… sick?”

As he rushed about, gathering his things, I questioned if they were going to the hospital.

“I don’t know. I just have to hurry and get over there!”

“Ok.” I said, concerned. “Just let me know something.”

“I will.” He promised-running out of the door.

About ten minutes later someone rang the doorbell. I thought my man had forgotten something.

Nope. He didn’t.

Standing there in all her glory was my man’s, baby-momma. (She came before me in the sequence of things.) Our daughters were three years apart.

Of course, given the static between us, I was shocked to see her.

“What are you doing here?” I yelled.

“Is he here?”

“No he is not!” I said through the screen.

“Don’t you wanna know what he been doing? To us-both of us?”

Of course I wanted to know what he had been doing.

So, like an emotionally driven fiend with a plan, I invited her inside. Call me stupid-but I wanted to know.

“When he leaves your house, he comes to mine.”

My heart dropped…

“He said he was taking care of his father on the weekends so his mother could rest.”

“That’s the lie he tells me during the week.”

“What?! Well… He just rushed up out of here to be with his family. He said his father is really sick. So… He won’t be coming back.”

“His father ain’t sick! He rushed out because his friend called to tell him I was on my way over here. I stopped over there first.”

😳😳😳

And that, my reading audience, is how the character, Thelma Davis made her way into *Watering My Flowers-Ember’s Story*
