We have been officially “homeschooling” for a few months. And, I finally have everything organized and categorized the way I would like it to be.

So, in this blog I’ll be most of the math Manipulatives I am using for my now 5 and 3 year old.

Why use or invest in math manipulatives?

Math Manipulatives make math fun and interesting. They make abstract ideas concrete, where they are able to construct problems And patterns as opposed to just seeing a picture. Firsthand experience is always necessary for connection, especially for toddlers, preschoolers, and early elementary.

Manipulatives help connect the language of math to a real understanding. It help students build confidence by giving them a way to self correct and check their own work. It also help with other skills like fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, recognition of shapes, colors, etc.

As you can tell, I am definitely a fan. I don’t remember learning math like this growing up so it is a priority for my children. I recall having to memorize facts.

Did you know that early math knowledge is a good predictor of academic achievement later in life? Math manipulatives are a great way to help your child get a head start.

Manipulatives also help children take control of their learning and understanding. Having them can get your child to engage more if they seem hesitant about doing math.

Give it a try! 😊
