😳 Love the incredulous expressions from people when you tell them you’re doing a fast. It intensifies in peculiarity with the corresponding increase in duration of days.
Gotta admit, sometimes I’m impulsive and it’s a vibe that either strengthens or obliterates my will power when it comes into my awareness. I prefer to be avoidant and blame it on my Scorpio nature, for better or worse. I’d reintegrated weekly 24 hour fasts for the last few months and threw in a couple 36 hour ones. On a whim I decided to do a 72 hour fast. Last time I did one of those was 27 years ago. In the midst of the fast I decided to prolong and was pushing for 5 days but ended it at 4 days. A new PB! (That’s personal best, not peanut butter with the J).
HUNGER PANGS ON A FAST
In 72 hours, hunger pangs represented 5% or less of that duration. Meaning, less than 3 hours.
I will say this, there was a point where I did want to take a massive bite out of the fridge door.
I also noticed these smells that had no business of being present and cravings that were so tempting (pizza, aroma of fresh baked cookies).
4 DAY FAST SUMMARY
✅ Day 1 - negligible (worked out)
✅ Day 2 - normal (worked out)
🌟🌟🌟 Day 3 - incredible (worked out - see my fitness protocol for a major advantage here)
😑 Day 4 - was rough energetically and then after a bowel movement I realized that perhaps that’s why dog’s do a happy dance after dropping a deuce 💩
TIPS TO MAKE FASTING EASIER IN THE BEGINNING
⏱️ Time your ‘last’ in the evening so you sleep through almost 50% of a 24hr fast [ ex. Eat at 8pm, in bed at 11, up at 7am, by the time you’re ready to giddy up, it’s after 8 and half the 24 hour fast is complete ]
👉 Keep yourself preoccupied (meaning outside of normal everyday activity) if you have a propensity to be in your thoughts a lot, the mental chaos can be the hardest thing to navigate versus the physicality of the fast.
THESE THINGS ARE TRUE ABOUT FASTING
- 3rd day, energy was off the charts
- Walking up stairs so easy (inflammation went down immensely)
- Mental clarity was pristine
Process is different for everyone but there is overlap in shared symptoms.
EYE OPENER FASTING EFFECTS
- Bloating, distension was still constant
- Realize that i actually love food
- My relationship with food had some new light shed on it ‘
COMING OUT OF THE FAST
I actually set myself up for success. I had picked up bone broth, and other items to coincide with a small eating schedule I had created. Then, that will power thing came up again in the form of these, literally called Epic, chocolate chip cookies 🍪 In between my second small meal and third I indulged, not going to lie, the way I lit up would have made Christmas tree envious.
In all seriousness though, outside of what science says or how it may explain what you experience, first hand, I’ve done productive and non-productive food integrations after a fast. Truly, be mindful it is in your best interest.
