One Reason Why You’re Not Achieving Your Fitness Goals🏋🏻‍♂️

MINDSET MATTERS FOR FITNESS SUCCESS



👉 Expectation meets Reality = Biggest Workout Deterrent


To facilitate your success in achieving your fitness and wellness goals, the 4rth Commandment of the Gentle Drill Sergeant’s Success Protocol conveys a balance between strong dream achievement desire and reality not in alignment with expectations. Just as Mustang used to take several attempts to calibrate the necessary placement of his jowls, there are systems to put in place that are similar. Here’s a few tips to get the balance right (and yes on occasion, you may just have to drag the big stick because of impatience and do the grind).


EMPOWER YOURSELF

Research answers to your questions and explore at least 3 sources per question. If you’re question is: How long does it take the average person to change their body composition?  It can be two pronged approach: 1. Lose weight 2. Build muscle.  They don’t necessarily happen in isolation meaning they happen simultaneously however they require different strategies.  The issue here is, for some, reason people expect that what the media states will apply to them automatically.  Here’s the truth, there’s a checklist of items you go through to see how your body evolves.  This checklist is like the trunk of a tree, the options represent the branches, the roots your mindset. Some branches blossom others need to be pruned.  Without proper roots you’ll be blowing every which way the wind does. 💨 


GIVE CREDIT WHERE CREDIT IS DUE - STARTS WITH MINDSET

Not enough credit is given to just showing up.   You’d imagine it would create inner momentum especially seeing that on average within the first 5 minutes you already start feeling better. But feeling better in the short term doesn’t stick. It would seem having stress dissolve in a short period of time to be able to navigate the perpetual daily challenges isn’t glamorous enough.   


IDENTIFY MOTIVATORS TO STAY ON TRACK

My primary fitness motivation at this stage is multiple:

  • stress transmutation
  • vanity
  • functional ability

In my beginning days, the motivator was only to improve sports performance.  My current secondary motivator, vanity, wasn’t present for the first 35 years because being fit was easy and natural.  Throw in some health challenges and now I get to test all of my mindset tools.  Walk the talk (or hobble sometimes).  


HOW TO ENSURE YOU REACH YOUR FITNESS GOALS

Track sessions ✍️ There’s a couple great blank lined journals here to take notes. Best way to reinforce your commitment.  Taking notes helps to see progress, adapt and keep you going until you reach your goal.  Then, maintenance.  That’s the simple formula.  Performing it is the challenge.  Keeping on the path is a challenge.  Set small and large; short and long term goals.  This helps immensely


CREATE FOUNDATIONAL EXPECTATIONS

For beginners or those getting back into the rhythm,  set a base expectation of 6 weeks, if things occur quicker, fantastic. If they take longer, assess.  Sometimes you do need to be patient and realize it takes longer.  Nor get hung up on the 6 week baseline.  It’s not arbitrary nor is it gospel.  At some point, timelines won’t matter because consistency will be the most important and you’re in a maintenance phase.  Less effort to stay fit.
