AA - THE MINDSET SHIFT FOR SUSTAINABLE WELLNESS SUCCESS
17 years on, you know this House Rule is in classic territory for being a timeless reminder. And it’s actually tied into two of the other originals. The House Rules were meant as a simple ‘AA’ for fitness, attitude adjusters. Mindset is more powerful than actual exercise. Prove me wrong.

You would think this is self-explanatory but clearly it’s not. True confession of a wellness architect, I still abide by this rule, regularly. Reasoning for this is a whole other conversation. But I have to discipline myself, which means adjust my attitude especially when expectations or needs aren’t being met. Had a realization that I shared with a friend as to how hard I am on myself, I said to them, “could you imagine if I spoke to clients the same way I speak to myself sometimes?”
RHETORICAL OR MORE SO, REFLECTIVE QUESTION
What purpose does negative self-talk serve? How many people actually respond well to it? Like when a coach yells at you? There’s a difference between trying to motivate yourself or light a fire under your ass and replaying some subconscious belief that hinders and hampers. When does guilt, shame and harsh talk actually work? It may be a one off but at some point there’s a major disconnect.
PROVEN WAY TO ACHIEVE YOUR FITNESS GOALS
The purpose of these tips, explicitly is to assist your exercise routine success. Goal achievement and maintenance. Success is many things in workout vernacular. First and foremost and always, is getting at it. Showing up. Doesn’t matter if your energy is low, working with it and getting some reps in continues consistency. The next success is repetition of the first one. That’s the simple formula. Adaptations get built in. Get out of your way and get at it.
