HOW TO SUCCEED WITH YOUR FITNESS GOALS
When I operated my fitness studio I had a set of house rules. 15 years after shutting it down and circling back to fitness coaching that now includes services like reiki and mindfulness instruction, I’ve created a new list which is more like a gospel of sorts.

#1 BE KIND TO YOURSELF
You may ask, what does this have to do with achieving my goals? Where you are on your fitness journey is irrelevant, whether beginner, somewhere in between, starting again or a seasoned training disciple. There’s this condition that afflicts many: MENTAL MASOCHISM
If you find yourself creating a 100 ways to avoid training it likely means training is painful to you. It’s reinforcing a ‘belief’ pattern about yourself that you avoid and ironically perpetuate the belief in this avoidant behaviour.
Working out is the last thing I want to do sometimes.
Am I alone in this truth? Nope. Weight training is not for everyone, I get it. I’m not here to enable you but let’s have a frank conversation.
ALL THE THINGS YOU MISS BY NOT WEIGHT TRAINING
What weight training is really effective at is getting rid of stress in a very short bout of time. My life experience as a disciple of ‘iron’ and being a health educator has allowed me to create and maximize programming that gets gains in less time. 🏋🏻♂️
Weight training is a means to possibly offset detrimental conditions. Fitness isn’t just about looking good. Can you keep up with your kids, dog ? Everyday functionality is seriously an under appreciated beneficial outcome of training routines and usually comes to the one’s attention by negative consequence.
There is a great sense of personal accomplishment derived from doing something for yourself by your own hands. Weight training is a powerful means of developing a very positive sense of self.
If you choose not to work out or be active for reasons that are hardly justifiable, choose not to judge yourself negatively as well. Be blunt. Be honest with yourself. It’s not for you until it is or something else provides you with the same fulfillment on a physical, mental and emotional level.
Being kind to yourself isn’t about sugar-coating 💩. Kindness is accepting things and allowing that space of neutrality to blossom or just be. Be surprised, you may.
HOW TO HIRE THE RIGHT FITNESS COACH/PERSONAL TRAINER
Where does a dog as a personal trainer come into this equation?
Dogs innately know how to have fun. Dogs are your number one cheerleader no matter what you are experiencing. They are always there for you. And they know how to enjoy treats, they live for them. 🐾
