đź’ś Rebuilding Confidence After Pain: How I Found My Voice Again

I don’t talk about this often, part of my self-love and confidence journey started after surviving domestic violence. And with October being Domestic Violence Awareness Month, I wanted to share. That experience broke me, but it also brought me back to myself. Not the version that was trying to hold everything together, walking on eggshells, or playing small just to keep the peace…

I actually share more of this chapter of my life in the anthology In Spite of It All, alongside other incredible women who refused to let their story end in pain. If you want to read the full piece of my healing journey as well as the stories of others, you can download it here: 👉 In Spite of it All

The woman underneath it all, still had dreams, purpose, and a powerful voice that deserved to be heard. Healing taught me that confidence isn’t about faking strength or having it all figured out. It’s about choosing yourself even when it feels uncomfortable.

It’s reclaiming your peace, your voice, your power… little by little, breath by breath. And if you’ve ever had to pick yourself back up after heartbreak, trauma, or just life coming at you hard, sis, I see you. You’re not alone. Here are a few things that helped me rebuild my confidence and remember who TF I am. 💜

✨ 5 Ways to Rebuild Your Confidence After a Hard Season

1. Give yourself grace — healing takes time.

Stop rushing your comeback. You’re not behind; you’re rebuilding. Every small step forward counts, even if it doesn’t look like progress yet.

2. Speak life over yourself daily.

Start catching those negative thoughts in the act. Replace them with words that remind you who you really are — powerful, worthy, and still becoming.

3. Reconnect with what makes you feel alive.

Confidence grows when you do the things that bring you joy — dancing, journaling, prayer, nature walks, good food, laughter. Those moments bring you back home to yourself.

4. Be mindful of your circle.

Sis, energy is contagious. Surround yourself with women who remind you of your magic, not your mistakes. The right people will water your growth, not drain it.

5. Celebrate your becoming.

Don’t wait until you “arrive” to clap for your damn self.

Celebrate every boundary you’ve set, every moment you’ve chosen peace, and the woman you’re becoming right now.

đź’ś Real talk, sis:

You don’t have to have it all together to love yourself again.

You just have to make the decision today to start choosing you, one intentional act at a time. When I started affirming myself daily, everything shifted.

That’s why I created “5 Powerful Affirmations for Black Women to Build Self-Love” words that ground you, heal you, and remind you what you deserve.
