Rooted in Worthiness: What Gratitude, Healing, and Surrender Taught Me About Receiving

There was a time when I didn’t know how to receive. Compliments? I’d brush them off. Help? I’d say, “I got it.” even when I didn't. Blessings? I’d question if I even deserved them or the intention behind them, I just couldn't see them for what they were. I didn’t realize I was blocking my own flow, not because I didn’t want good things, but because deep down, I didn’t feel worthy of them.

Healing taught me something powerful: gratitude and worthiness go hand in hand. Gratitude opens the door, but worthiness allows you to walk through it. When I started my self-love journey, I thought healing was about fixing what was broken. But over time, I learned it was about remembering who I already was, whole, enough, and deserving of every good thing life had to offer. I had to unlearn the idea that I had to “earn” peace, love, or rest. I had to stop rushing, stop proving, stop pouring into everyone else while leaving myself empty.

So, I started small.

Every morning, I wrote down three things I was thankful for, not the big stuff, but the quiet things: breath in my body, sunlight on my skin, the sound of my own laughter in joyous moments. That’s when things started to shift. Gratitude grounded me. It softened my heart and reminded me that even in the middle of life lifeing, there was always something beautiful holding me steady. And from that space, worthiness started to settle into my body and take root.

I stopped saying “yes” out of guilt.

I stopped dimming my light to make others comfortable.

I stopped rejecting love and support when it showed up.

Because I finally understood receiving isn’t selfish, it’s spiritual. It’s how we tell God, “I’m ready.” to receive. Now, when blessings flow my way, I don’t second-guess them. I open my arms and say, thank you. Because I know I’m worthy, not because I’ve done everything right, but just because I AM. Period.
