The Day I Chose Myself
A gentle journey from hurting to healing
There was a time when I thought healing meant forgetting.
Forgetting the people who hurt me.
Forgetting the things I wished had happened differently.
Forgetting the version of myself who cried quietly at night and smiled the next morning as if nothing had happened.
But I was wrong.
Healing wasn't about forgetting.
It was about remembering everything without allowing it to control me anymore.
It began very quietly.
One morning, I looked at myself in the mirror and realized something:
I had spent so much time trying to be enough for everyone else that I had forgotten to be there for myself.
So I stopped.
I stopped chasing people who kept walking away.
I stopped explaining my heart to people who had already decided not to understand it.
I stopped apologizing for needing rest.
And slowly, I started listening to the little voice inside me that had been waiting for years.
It said,
“You deserve the same love you keep giving to everyone else.”
That was the beginning.
Not a perfect beginning.
Just a quiet one.
And sometimes, a quiet beginning is all we need.
