I Spent 30 Days With Lofi... Here's How My Brain Has Changed
Small Pebble, Big Ripples
30 days ago, I came across a random lofi live stream on YouTube. While I was listening and enjoying the peaceful artwork and animations, I lost track of time and the stress that often comes with it. I was flying through my tasks, unaware of how much time had passed, but very aware of how much I got done. This is a major side effect of listening to lofi type music. It's a small pebble in the grand scheme of the wide range of music that gets released everyday, but it produces big ripples throughout the millions, if not billions, of peoples' lives who encounter it. It's also one of the things that has incredibly changed my life in just the past 30 days.
Benefits of Lofi
There's an infinite list of benefits that lofi provides to listeners of it. If the base version of lofi were an essential oil, it would probably be lavender. I say this because it has relaxing and calming properties that can help you rest after a long day. It creates background noise that helps the work pass by easily. You'll find yourself performing better and increasing your productivity by listening to lofi, simply because it uplifts your mood. (Note: Depending on whether you "partake" you will see elevated levels of relaxation.) In general, lofi on its own is a relaxing and easily available remedy to restlessness, stress, and anxiety.
My Brain Rewired Itself?
Normally, when I create, whether it's music or art, I tend to reach a point where I beat myself up for perhaps not achieving anything I set out to do. I have trouble following through with things. It's a gift to be able to initiate and innovate, but it's a curse to not be able to finish. However, that seems to have changed. Abruptly I went from having a lot on my plate and being stretched between all these different tasks. This made it harder for me to really track my progress by any metric other than how much money that task brings in. So, really, nothing I was doing was progressing because none of it was bringing in income or anything that can be deemed success. So, on a whim I decided to start working in 2 hour intervals. Thought that would help, and it did for a time. This is when I happened upon that lofi playlist that would turn out to calm my stress, turn the loud environment into background noise and it allowed me to focus on what I was trying to do. Then, it happened.
In the past 30 days, I've made a few hundred beats, started a YouTube channel, made this website, posted over 15 playlists on my channel and released music on various other music streaming platforms. I have exponentially increased my productivity, my presence, my skill, and my understanding of all the logistics of everything I'm pursuing. I've been able to sleep better with it, remain alert and multitask skillfully. I've learned so much in the past 30 days. But the main thing I've learned is that no matter how much bad is out here in the world, at least we still have lofi, and maybe that's the real friend we made along the way.
