The OrangePhone 9s is an utterly beautiful new OrangePhone, but is it really that new? Lets find out whether its worth the $799...
MATERIALS:
Glass rear design with aluminium edges provides a sturdy and premium feel. Overall it looks very premium.
Score: 83/100
BATTERY:
The OrangePhone 9s has up to 21h of battery life which is typical and nothing ground-breaking. I guess Orange are playing it safe to avoid a 'Note 7 incident' This device should get most users through a day of usage.
Score: 72/100
DISPLAY:
The 9s sports a 120Hz Adaptive Refresh Rate 6.3" Panel with a peak brightness of up to 3000nits. It also has ceramic infused glass which I'm sure JerryRig will be most pleased with.
Score: 85/100
SOFTWARE:
One of the most iconic OS's ever is Orange's PhoneOS and it continues to impress here. The software is also supercharged with Orange's advanced Ava AI assistant.
Score: 89/100
DESIGN:
Orange plays it safe again with keeping a familiar design on the 9s. Is the design new? No. But what it is, is beautiful. Should Orange update their entry-level flagship designs soon? Yes, absolutely.
Score: 80/100
COLOURS:
This is where the phone truly shines. The 9s comes in 6 beautiful shades: Black, White, Pink, Red, Blue and Orange. These colours are the most beautiful colours I have seen on any smartphone not just from Orange, but from the entire FTU.
Score: 94/100
CAMERA:
The OrangePhone 9s has a 48MP wide and 48MP Ultrawide camera - both typical. They support up to 6x digital zoom which isn't great. Does support optical up to 2x though which we do appreciate.
Score: 81/100
STORAGE:
256GB, 512GB, 1TB
Score: 100/100
VALUE AND PRICE:
The 9s offers good specs and is powered by the last generation O9 Chip. The phones overall value isn't fantastic. The OrangePhone 9s is practically just the 9 with better colours, So - if colours matter a lot this phone is better for you.
Score: 70/100
Alright, so is the OrangePhone 9s worth that $799? While this new OrangePhone is undeniably sweet in its design, and those new colours truly pop beautifully, offering some of the most stunning shades we've seen, the overall package feels a little too familiar. The performance, powered by last gens O9 chip, is perfectly adequate, but the value proposition isn't fantastic. Ultimately, the OrangePhone 9 is still readily available, offers very similar specs, and represents better value for your money. If those gorgeous new colours are an absolute must-have for you, then the 9s might tempt you, but for most, sticking with the last generation 9 makes more sense for your wallet.
OVERALL SCORE: 83/100
