How did the cliché of the Witch on a flying broom started...?

Merry Meet my wonderful Witches everywhere!

What’s the most cliché icon of a Witch? Well, flying over the Moon, on a broom, of course!

Ever wondered why?

I mean, let’s face it: none of us flies on brooms, when the Moon is full, right? (If there is anyone of you that does, I really really REALLY wanna meet you! Message me ASAP!)

So, here is the truth… And I’m sorry that it’s not as wondrous as we would all wish:

A very common practice of Witches in the older days, was to sweep the floor, from North to South, at the night of the full Moon, to cleanse the house of negativity. They usually made little pirouettes (counter-clockwise, of course) while sweeping, and chanted along.

Close your eyes and imagine these beautiful Witches, with their long medieval skirts, sweeping the floor under the light of the Moon, while chanting and doing little pirouettes… Gives you the impression they are flying, don’t they…?

…And that’s is how it’s started…
