SATOR ROTAS is a Latin palindrome, which means it reads the same backwards as forwards.
It is often arranged in a square formation, with each word forming a line both horizontally and vertically, as follows:
S A T O R
A R E P O
T E N E T
O P E R A
R O T A S
The SATOR ROTAS square has been found in several archaeological sites in Europe and the Middle East, including Pompeii, and is believed to date back to the early centuries of the Common Era.
Its exact meaning and purpose, however, remain unclear and the subject of much debate among scholars.
The oldest mention of it is found engraved on a wall of Pompeii, which dates back to the 1st century AD, but according to Kabbalists, Solomon was its originator and creator.
According to the prevailing view, however, as to what it symbolizes, this square amulet refers to Ezekiel's vision, when God appeared to him surrounded by strange creatures-wheels full of eyes, with wheels within wheels that turned in four directions. The reason for this is because the arrangement and choice of words is reversible, meaning that they can be read vertically, horizontally and upside down, without changing.
Sator means God or Saviour
Arepo means plows
Tenet means rules
Opera means the works of Man
Rotas means Creation
Therefore, all together if we read it from top to bottom, it means "God (or the Saviour) plows and rules the works of Man and of Creation". Which, if read from the bottom up, means "Creation and the works of Man rule God (or Saviour)"... I leave the philosophical considerations to you.
Although to this day it is considered a talisman of the early Christians, several indications direct us to its connection with the ancient God Mithras.
How to use it
The square of Sator-Rotas can be used in many ways as protection against demons and generally malevolent entities. As a talisman, it protects the wearer from demons, from disease and from misfortune, also offering courage and strength.
Another use of it is to be carved at the entrance of the house, to protect it from all evil and to keep malicious entities away.
In past centuries, it was engraved on babies' cradles, to protect them from all harm.
Finally, it can be recited in spells or rituals to exorcise demons or other malevolent entities, or ward off disease and bad luck.
And that is all there is about SATOR ROTAS.
