My trip to Thailand kicked off in Bangkok, a city where the energy never stops, and where ancient traditions coexist with modern innovation. The streets are a never-ending buzz of color, sound, and the mouthwatering aroma of street food wafting through the air. I was instantly drawn to the energy of this sprawling metropolis, starting with the iconic Khao San Road—a backpacker’s paradise, but also a place where I found endless shopping treasures and delicious food stalls.
On Khao San Road, you can shop for everything from funky clothes and local handicrafts to stunning Thai silk. I spent hours browsing through the vibrant market, picking up unique souvenirs and clothing that felt like the perfect memento of my trip. The street is lined with tiny shops, street vendors, and bustling markets, offering everything from knock-off fashion to intricate jewelry and accessories. It was like stepping into a treasure trove, where every turn led to a new find.
When it comes to food, Khao San Road is a culinary adventure. I couldn’t resist the temptation of trying pad thai, green curry, and the infamous "saparo sticks" (= pineapple on a stick) —I had them every day. The best part? I could pick up a quick and cheap bite from one of the street food carts, where locals and tourists alike gather to share meals and laughter.
Aside from the fun and hustle of Khao San Road, my time in Bangkok was also about making an impact. I had the incredible opportunity to teach at Suan Dusit University, one of Thailand’s leading educational institutions. As an educator, I felt privileged to meet such bright and motivated students. Teaching in Bangkok was an experience that added a whole new layer to my trip. I got to share my knowledge with future leaders while learning from their unique perspectives.
The exchange of ideas was inspiring, and it felt amazing to be part of their journey, helping them develop skills that would shape their futures.
Between the cultural richness of the temples, the exciting shopping on Khao San Road, the delicious street food, and the rewarding experience of teaching at Suan Dusit University, Bangkok truly gave me a glimpse of everything that makes Thailand so special.
It was a perfect start to my adventure in this incredible country.
