Exploring the Mysterious Desert and Underground Dwellings

One of the most awe-inspiring experiences of my trip was venturing into the vast, golden sands of the Tunisian desert on the mainland.

The desert, with its expansive horizons and stillness, holds a certain mystery that’s hard to describe. But what left me truly speechless was visiting the underground homes of the locals. There're actually still people living underground but at the same time they're more free than most people in Europe. No stress, no traffic...the middle of nowhere. Even the toilet is in the middle of nowhere (see picture below ;-)).

These fascinating troglodyte dwellings, built entirely below the ground, have been used for centuries to protect against the harsh desert heat. The architecture was a marvel of practicality and tradition—cool and inviting, yet so humble and full of character. I couldn’t help but marvel at how these communities have managed to live in such a unique and sustainable way, holding strong to their roots in the face of modernity.

The old lady who offered us a sneak peak into here house served us some fresh mint tea, home made bread with organic olive oil and organic honey. What a taste when it's not industrialized.

Have a look at the pictures below, just fantastic.
