I've been in oil and gas for 8 months now
Let me tell you some life lessons I learned that may come in handy.
MY LESSONS WHILE WORKING
I. Know your people and stay loyal to them
My people are Emem and Bukunmi: No matter how sweet the gossip is at the office, you will never find me in a conversation that badmouths them. When issues concern them, I take extra care.
You select your people by asking yourself this:
• Who has the knowledge need
• Who has the connections I need
• Who genuinely cares about me enough to use I & 2 to help me in times of trouble
• Who will protect me when the chips
• Who has earned my loyalty
Which leads to number 2
2. Don't let your people push you over. Let them love or respect you - say no to them when you need to when they offend you speak up. The goal is not to be liked by them it's to build strong connections and relationships with them.
3. Take credit for your work / advocate for yourself: Don't shy away from praise! That's how people get noticed for recommendations, positive appraisal scores, and more opportunities. If you do something good and someone acknowledges it. Take credit! Be visible!!
4. Be sure to document everything: Don't accept verbal approval for a written message! This is self-explanatory. But let me just say that humans tend to have amnesia in front of a disciplinary committee.
5. Don't underestimate the power of networks and relationships: It's not every fight you fight. Do good when you can.
6. Be careful signing or acknowledging anything with "Collected by (insert name)
Then your signature"
Please let them time stamp with a machine and be on their way. Because sometimes we receive things without thinking and then sign them. Please be very careful.
7. Remember that your emails can always be forwarded.
Cheers to your success 📈
