I prefer to avoid terms like "awakening" or "spiritual growth," as they often evoke images of a human being idolized, with followers blindly accepting their personal beliefs as absolute truth. I do not identify as a follower; instead, I rather use the term "finding yourself'.
I want to share with you the methods I personally utilized to breakdown harmful beliefs that were controlling my life in a detrimental way. These methods have helped me to de-brainwash myself from insanely stupid beliefs that were instilled in me.
Step 1 — Method of Doubts
If you had grown up in a different family, in a different culture, your self-perception would be completely different. The person you are today is like a mask made up of all the labels you were given, the limitations placed on you, the conclusions you reached as a child based on your experiences, and the so-called "facts" repeated to you by those around you.
Philosopher René Descartes felt that he been wrong so many times, and was not entirely sure why he believed certain things he believed, so he resolves to, just once in his life, build up an entire new belief system on solid ground. To do this, he says that he must first doubt all his previous beliefs.
Doubting allows for new, uncorrupted ways of thinking to emerge. When you begin to question the beliefs imposed upon you or formed as a coping mechanism in childhood, you will slowly dismantle the conditioning that confined you beneath the throne that is rightfully yours.
Step 2 — Collapsing and Rebuilding Neural Pathways
It is widely recognized that the first seven years of a child's development are crucial, as the brain functions like a sponge, absorbing and learning from everything in its environment.
I firmly believe that this influence extends throughout the teenage years and up to the age of 19. During this formative period, everything around an individual shapes the development of their neural pathways. The assumptions they make about themselves, their understanding of life, and their strategies for staying safe significantly impact their behaviour, actions, and decisions.
Building new neural pathways ways is akin to developing muscle. It requires intentionality; one must consciously decide how and what to think. This new way of thinking must then be reinforced through repetition, which is the foundation of all behavioural patterns.
Why would you want to live your life adopting the personal viewpoints of others? Their perspectives are not your own. Embracing your unique thoughts and beliefs is essential for authenticity.
It's a new era of women's empowerment and elevation. SeeNYC
