EQ7 on the way!

About 2 weeks ago word was out that a new version of Electric Quilt would be here soon. There was a lot of speculation on the info-eq list.

EQ6 was the first version to have limited activations. That caused quite a stir when it came out in November, 2006. The activations were to prevent buyers from sharing the program with others. I did go through all 4 of my activations. First I put it on my laptop, which I had had some problems with. When I found out I couldn’t buy another extended warranty on the laptop, I thought I better buy a new laptop. Well, that old laptop is still going, it doesn’t get used much, but it has a few programs on it that I need occasionally, EQ6 being one of them. The ‘new’ laptop turned out to be a very sour lemon. I’ve lost track of the number of times I sent it in for repair and it came back reformatted, and the number of times I reformatted it myself. That used up activations 2, 3, and 4. Almost a year ago, I gave up on it and bought another laptop, which has been wonderful! The people at Electric Quilt were generous enough to give me one more activation [I think I gave them the whole nightmare history].

This time, the program can be installed on as many computers as you want, and you’ll be able to transfer the activation from one to another, and, I’ve heard, be able to use it on 2 computers at a time. With the EQ6 upgrade, EQ5 had to be installed on the computer first, then add EQ6. Being out of activations, if I had to get another computer, I wouldn’t be able to activate EQ6, if that was necessary to install the EQ7 upgrade. But all we need to do to use the upgrade version [exact same program as the full price version, just a price break for current customers], is to enter our license ID and password. That was a relief to me!

The EQ company really listens to their customers. We’ve been encouraged to let them know what we’d like to see in the program, and then they give it to us! It happened before EQ6 came out, and now again with EQ7. Wouldn’t it be nice if other companies were like that? Like the sewing machine manufacturers. And computer manufacturers.

That’s it for now, I just had to share about EQ7. I can hardly wait. There are several websites that are taking pre-orders. EQ7 will start shipping on June 7---- 6 more weeks…
