Zig or Zag

Sometimes I will play around with a pattern for years before I'm satisfied with it. This is one of those patterns.

The name is often the hardest part of designing a pattern, but not this time. The name was easy, coming up with how to piece it was the hard part.

I had a design in mind, but I couldn't make the blocks fit around the panel without making it an unusable size, or figure out a way to piece that I could do without pulling my hair out. So back in the corner it would go. I'd drag it out occasionally. I finally found a way to piece it that I could live with. The look isn't exactly like I started with, but I'm happy with it!

I sewed my sample using Northcott's Allure collection.

I left it up on my design wall, and gave the pattern to my wonderful testers, and they went right to work on it.

As I looked at it, I thought what if the side borders were flipped? I went back to the EQ file, and, oh nooooo! I like that so much better, but I'm not tearing out all those borders to change it. I showed it to my testers. Ruth informed me that all that was needed was to flip the corner blocks! That much I could live with.

I like that so much better!

Now for the tester samples.

This is Dotty B's.

This is Ruth S's.

I asked them to take a picture of the finished quilt too. Ruth found a "picture-perfect" location and I asked her permission to use it for the cover quilt. Someday I hope to have my peacock on the cover too, but so far it hasn't been lucky enough to get quilted!
