This morning I read an article about repotting your Alocasia, which appeared to have a couple of different authors to the piece. I got super triggered by this statement ''Alocasias love a spacious home' this is BS they actually prefer being root-bound as in their natural habitat they grow compactly, it also encourages more foliage growth of the plant, and it reduces the chances of root rot. The only time I would say that you need to repot them is if they have experienced pests or there is very little soil left and it's mainly roots. If a plant is happy why change any of it's care anyway?
In the wild Alocasia spread by producing corms/tubers that hold nutrients and energy to aid in propagation. Then eventually the corm will produce a whole new plant. It really annoys me when I see articles containing the wrong information. I can't believe how many people get paid to write lies lol don't even get me started on the plant apps they are the worst. The picture is one of our Alocasia's I was looking through my photographs trying to find a picture and I got a bit sad as we used to have an Alocasia Frydek, but it came with spider mites and they ravaged the plant. I miss it, if I could I would have so many more plants.
Anyway some good news I sold a plant at the weekend and I met a lovely lady who is just getting into plants, we had a lovely long conversation. I love meeting fellow plant enthusiasts because I can let my plant geek side out fully without judgement. Family and friends got annoyed with my obvious passion and excitement with plants so I repressed it, I'm not prepared to suppress that or anything about me anymore they can all suck it.
