A few weeks ago we refreshed the hanging baskets that we made up in Autumn. We trialled Tradescantia Nanouk and the Tradescantia Purpurea they looked so pretty, but they only survived one frost and then they died a death. Everything else in the hanging baskets survived the Winter, which is to be expected as they are either hardy shrub Euonymus japonicus, a couple of conifers and plants like violas and pansies . So we refreshed them by adding in some cream primrose, hyacinth bulbs and daffodils and by having a big dig and mix up of the soil adding some fresh. They are starting to look like spring is very much on its way.
I can't wait for Spring to arrive so we can get back to sorting out the garden at the community centre as I walk past it most days and I am so eager to sort it out. There are shrubs that need digging up and moving as the people who have been looking after it before I came along didn't take into account how much they would grow nor would they allow me to move them last year. This year I am taking charge with the garden and I will do what I believe is best. There are so many leaves as it is right next to two big trees, but we really do need to leave them for a little while longer so as not to disturb the wildlife that is likely to be hibernating under those leaves.
We also plan on growing more vegetables to use in the kitchen for the lunch club so I will be spending more time in the locked away garden where we planted a few herbs last year. I so wish I had a greenhouse so I could get so many more seeds on the go.
