Narcissus aka the daffodil

What a beautiful sight the first daffodil of the season, did you know that they symbolize new beginnings, hope and rebirth due to their early arrival in spring. The trumpet shaped flower is said to be that shape as it's informing all of the other flowers that it's time to bloom.

The Victorian's linked daffodils to "regard" and "unequaled love"

I've not always been the biggest fan of daffodils as I'm not keen on their scent, but I appreciate their beauty and I love to add them into our spring hanging baskets they make a wonderful addition of colour. We only have pots in our garden so once they have gone over I plant them across the road on some derelict land so I'm looking forward to seeing last years reappear this year.

We planted loads of daffodil and tulip bulbs in Autumn, not many survived the resident squirrel and his family. Even though I feed him monkey nuts he still has the nerve to steal our bulbs. One day he even sat there starting at me as he peeled away and munched on the bulb. We often have stare outs, one morning he completely freaked me out by pointing at me for a length of time. I'm just glad that he didn't do the neck cutting action or I would have really been freaked out.

Spring is almost here zippity do dah zippity day!
