Purpose Doesn't Retire When You Do

Retirement changes the shape of our work. It does not have to end our usefulness. A season of life that used to be filled by a job can be filled by something just as meaningful, if we choose it on purpose.

The Bible gives a hopeful picture. Ecclesiastes reminds us that there is a season for every activity under heaven, so a new season is not a loss but a change. And Psalm 92 says of the righteous that they will still bear fruit in old age and stay fresh and green.

Here are three questions to ask as a season changes.

What gifts do I still have to give? Time, experience, steady hands, a listening ear. Make a short list.

Who is near enough to help? A neighbor, a young family, a church group, a garden club. Purpose usually shows up in a person, not an idea.

What is one small thing I can do this week? Not a grand plan, just a first step. Bring a meal. Teach a skill. Plant something and share it.

Stewardship covers more than money. Our bodies, our time, our abilities, our relationships and the creation around us are gifts worth tending well. You do not have to do everything. You only have to tend what is in front of you.
