In case you have not heard we serve an awesome God and when you get through reading this you will see just how awesome. I heard about a man named Peter Stoner years ago. He calculated the odds that any one man, namely Jesus Christ, could fulfill eight historically documented prophecies at 1 in 10 to the 17th power. Then he described what it would look like. I am sure some of you have heard this before. Peter Stoner said it would be like covering the state of Texas in silver dollars two feet high and painting one with a red check. You take an atheist or stray family member, maybe one in the same, and blindfold them, mix up all the coins and take him anywhere he wants to go in Texas and give him one try to pick the red check silver dollar. If he chooses to pick a silver dollar in Amarillo, you can take him for that big steak. If he can eat it all it's free at least he will feel like he won something. The steak house will have an ambulance standing by if it looks like he is going to finish or gets close. On second thought You should just buy him a regular steak, so he doesn't feel like he lost twice, few finish the meal.
Mr. Stoner added eight more prophecies for a total of sixteen and calculated the odds at 1 in 10 to the 45th power. He described this as a big ball of silver dollars that reached from the center of the earth to the sun, melting silver of course on the sunny end. He also said after you paint the red check on the silver dollar that to be accurate you need 30 big balls of silver dollars, but hey, we'll get your atheist buddy or family member a really cool spaceship to take a ride on, for an incredible experience.
Mr. Stoner just had to go a little farther because he is not a quitter. He added 32 more prophecies for a total of 48 and calculated the odds at 1 in 10 to the 157th power. Here we lose the silver dollars and get little bitty electrons. You take 2.5 electrons times 10 to the 25th power and you get a row of electrons in single file one inch long, just to give you an idea how tiny they are. The speed of light is 86,000 miles per hour. He described this as a big ball of electrons 6 billion light years in radius and you have to create 500 of those a minute until you go back to creation and use them all up. I will skip the red check and just put a drop of red paint on a group of electrons just to be nice and help an atheist out.
We have such awesome odds that God could get 48 prophecies all correct, that it makes it really hard for me to doubt anything the bible, God's inspired word, says. The 32 authors of the Old Testament didn't hang out at prophecy conferences and take notes. The Old Testament was written over a thousand years or so. Isaih, Daniel and the rest of the crew were either the best guessers in the history of mankind or they were truly inspired by God. If you take the lottery something people regularly play, at least some of you, then you are looking at 290 million to one odds, nine digits.
Look at how easy it is to win. A lot of you must be millionaires, after all it is only nine digits. I heard a while back and don't quote me on the accuracy, but if you go for a walk around the park or your neighborhood, bend down and pick up the winning lotto ticket the odds are not much worse, so save your two bucks and get some exercise.
I told you Mr. Stoner is not a quitter. He was the head of the mathematics and astronomy departments at Pasadena City College. The greater Los Angeles area used car dealers always tell the customers on TV reruns that "the car was driven by a little old lady from Pasadena, all those miles are gentle miles. She's a creampuff." I digress, he and some of his students looked at the 2,500 Old Testament prophecies and separated the 500 end time prophecies from the 2,000 that were to come true in ancient times. He told his students to calculate very conservatively, and they did. It came to a 1 followed by 2,000 zeros to 1, which is very conservative considering 8 got you to the 17th power and 17 zeros. He didn't know how to express this I mean he used up all the electrons and the number of atoms in the universe are only a 1 followed by 78-82 zeros so middle it and call it 80 zeros. You have to add 1,920 more zeros to get to God's odds. You are now beyond the universe by a mile, so to speak and you realize the math, like God cannot be contained in the known universe. You are left with nothing to express the math. God is the alpha and the omega. He stands outside the universe and beyond the constraints of time. Isaiah 46:10 Declaring the beginning from the end, and from ancient times things that are not yet done. I like to think the end is the end times, the 500 prophecies and the things not yet done in ancient times the 2,000. I like to think too much.
We also live with a lot of precision like the moon being the perfect distance to give us living oceans, rivers and lakes not to mention the living waters Jesus gives to quench an eternal thirst. The earth is at the perfect distance and tilt in relation to the sun and God's magnetic field guides birds, butterflies, fish and more hundreds and even thousands of miles to the exact location of their birthplace to reproduce.
The other day I was looking at YouTube and I saw a clip from the TV show "Young Sheldon" the boy genius and a spinoff from "The Big Bang Theory." Sheldon's mom was sad and doubting God when young Sheldon pointed out that, if gravity were slightly more powerful the universe would collapse into a ball and slightly less powerful the universe would fly apart leaving no stars or planets. He then told his mom that if the ratio of the electro-magnetic force to the strong force was not 1% life would not exist. She asked her little boy if he was trying to convince her that there was a God. He replied it's logical to assume that much precision in the universe must point to a creator. Then he said to her "Out of all the mothers in the world how did I wind up with the perfect mother for me? What are the odds?" She started to melt in tears, hugged her little boy and gazed up at God not doubting Him anymore. I know it was just a show but out of the mouths of babes comes the convincing proof of God. I pray this has helped your faith get stronger and that you will boldly proclaim Jesus as your Lord and Savior. Let others be jealous for what you have in Christ and may they seek it and come to know our jealous God.
