Understanding the Difference: Divine Protector Readings vs. Orixá Traditions
In the spiritual world, many traditions across the globe honor the idea that divine beings walk with us, guide us, and protect us. My Divine Protector reading is one such offering: a service where I tune in to discover which god, goddess, or divine spirit has chosen to walk with you since birth. It's not based on religion or dogma, but on intuitive spiritual connection. However, it's important to distinguish this from other sacred systems, especially closed or initiatory traditions like the worship of the Orixás.
What Are Orixás? Orixás (or Orishas) are powerful divine beings in the Yoruba religion of West Africa and its Afro-diasporic branches, such as Candomblé (Brazil), Santería (Cuba), and others. Each Orixá governs different aspects of life and nature, like rivers, storms, healing, love, or war. People are often said to be "born under" a specific Orixá, and that bond is revealed through sacred rituals and divination performed by trained priests or priestesses (Babalorixá or Iyalorixá).
These religions are closed traditions, meaning that they require formal initiation, training, and permission to practice. They are rooted in lineage, ceremony, and ancestral guidance.
What My Divine Protector Reading Is My Divine Protector reading is not an Orixá reading. I do not assign or identify someone's Orixá, and I do not perform any rituals from those closed systems. Instead, I receive intuitive guidance and use divination to discover which deity, god, or divine archetype is currently walking with you and may have chosen you at birth.
These beings may come from open spiritual lineages, such as:
- Pre-diaspora African deities
- Greek, Roman, Norse, Celtic pantheons
- Hindu or Buddhist deities (with care and respect)
- Elemental spirits, dragons, or other spirit guides
The purpose of this reading is to help you understand your energy, purpose, and the spiritual presence guiding you, without stepping into a practice that belongs to a closed religious tradition.
If You're Seeking to Know Your Orixá... I encourage you to connect with an initiated priest or elder in the Yoruba, Candomblé, or Santería traditions. These traditions are beautiful, powerful, and deserve to be honored with accuracy and integrity. Discovering your Orixá is a sacred process that involves spiritual dedication and the guidance of a religious community.
Respect, Not Appropriation In my work, I strive to honor spiritual traditions rather than borrow from them in ways that are disrespectful. My readings are based on open spiritual dialogue with divine energies that make themselves known through intuition, symbols, and divination.
You can receive guidance from African deities in my readings, but I will never claim to be an authority on the Orixás or other closed traditions. Spirit chooses you. I simply listen and pass along the message with love and reverence.
To Clarify:
- I do not do Orixá readings or assign Orixás.
- Orixás are part of closed initiatory systems like Candomblé and Santería.
- My Divine Protector reading connects you with divine beings from open pantheons.
- I honor African spiritual traditions without appropriating them.
- Always seek out trained spiritual leaders for guidance on closed practices.
With love and respect, Raelynn
