Instagram is today’s social currency, and as a self-employed professional, it is vital to your business's growth and recognition. You may not see organic traffic funnel in as quickly as leads you purchase online. However, putting the work in upfront to build connections and trust with your online network will make you top of mind when it’s time for them to buy.
Your profile is the first impression for any potential new client that finds you on socials. So how can you step up your Instagram game and get them to click “Follow”? Let’s talk about it!
Here are 3 simple steps that you can take today to optimize your Instagram profile and show up as a polished professional.
Switch to a professional account. - Professional accounts offer more data in your analytics to make sure your hard work to upkeep the account is actually paying off. In this business, time is money, and every second counts. If something is performing, keep doing it! If a certain type of post isn’t getting traction, it might be time to pivot. You won’t know without the data.
Furthermore, there are additional features that you can add to your profile with a professional account like listing your industry or profession, a “Contact” button, and an address. These features give a breath of professionalism that isn’t available on a personal account.
Update your bio. - Your bio is your lead magnet. It’s the place where you get a chance to share your elevator pitch on who you are, what you do, and why they should follow!
- Above your bio - This is searchable! This is your chance to establish yourself as a local expert, and show up in searches. We recommend something like “YOUR NAME - Local CITY/REGION Realtor” for example “John Smith - Local Phoenix Realtor”
- In the bio - Make it fun, personable, and to the point! Do you specialize in working with first-time homebuyers? Let people know right off the bat. Are you a top producer in your office? Brag about it! Are you a member of any networks or groups that you’re proud of? Throw that in! Like we said before, this is your elevator pitch. Why should people choose you?
Include a call to action. - This includes adding a link to your website on your profile. Why should people go to your website? What resources do you have for potential clients? Include this as the last line of your bio and make sure you have either a link to your website or a smart link (such as linktree, milkshake, or bitly) so clients know where to go when they’re ready to buy.
These 3 steps should only take about 15 minutes of your time in total. However, they can make a world of difference when somebody swipes on your profile for the first time.
