Holding Onto Joy: Parenting With Gratitude, Integrity, and Resilience

I’ll never forget the day I found out I was going to be a mother.

My husband and I had been married for just three months when something felt off. I exploded over something relatively trivial, setting off the first major fight in our relationship. We smoothed things over quickly—but then came the exhaustion.

The afternoon before I got the news, I picked up sandwiches for lunch and settled in to watch a popular kids’ movie. Ten minutes in, I found myself passed out on the couch, half-eaten sandwich in hand. Something was definitely up.

The next day, two bold pink lines appeared on a pregnancy test, confirming the beginning of something I’d always wanted—motherhood.

Twelve years later, my joy has multiplied. I have three extraordinary children who keep me in a constant state of awe. Still, the responsibility can feel heavy. Fear of repeating our parents’ mistakes, comparison culture, and the daily demands of caregiving can quietly erode our joy—especially when we’re still learning emotional regulation ourselves.

Yet none of this eliminates the joy of parenting. It simply invites us to seek it intentionally, together.

In this post, I explore how we can hold onto joy by practicing gratitude, modeling integrity, and building resilience—especially when parenting feels messy or overwhelming. Through real-life reflections and practical tools, we’ll look at ways to create daily rhythms that support joyful, grounded family life.
