3-mistakes-that-sink-most-t-top-installs
Created by Salt & Bolts
Precision bolts. Zero drama.
So you’ve bought the T-Top. You’ve got a free Saturday. And you think,
“How hard can this be?”
That’s when the mistakes begin.
Here are the three most common install errors that even seasoned DIYers make—and how to sidestep them.
❌ Mistake 1: Freehand Drilling
People love to drill before they measure. The results? A T-Top that leans like it’s trying to read over your shoulder.
Fix it: Use a 1:1 template to mark the exact drill points. We include one in our guide.
❌ Mistake 2: No Backing Plate
Bolting through the console wall without a backing plate is like mounting a TV on drywall. Without studs.
Fix it: Use a stainless backing plate to distribute pressure and avoid stress cracks later.
❌ Mistake 3: No Sealant, No Mercy
Some folks “forget” marine sealant. You know what happens? Water gets in, your bolt corrodes, and one storm later, your T-Top is T-Gone.
Fix it: Use sealant on every bolt hole and under the mounting feet.
