Born From Curls. Built With Intention.
Scilia Hair began with a simple idea: curly hair deserves more than a collection of products. It deserves a system that makes sense.
We are two women who came to curl care from very different directions—one through years of hands-on experience with curly hair, and the other through a passion for formulation, ingredients, and understanding why products work.
Those two perspectives became Scilia.
One of us understands curls from behind the chair: how they behave, how dramatically they can change from one wash day to the next, and what happens when humidity enters the picture.
The other approaches the same problems from inside the bottle: studying ingredients, formulation, pH, conditioning systems, proteins, humectants, polymers, and the chemistry that can make the difference between a curl that thrives and one that simply refuses to cooperate.
And we happen to live in Florida, where curls are put to the test every single day.
We Stopped Asking, “What Product Do Curls Need?”
Instead, we started asking:
What does the hair actually need?
That question changed everything.
We realized that great curl care isn't about piling on more and more products. Each product should have a purpose. It should solve a particular problem, complement the rest of the routine, and earn its place on your shelf.
That thinking became the Scilia Curl Building System.
Our five pillars represent the essential functions we believe belong in a thoughtful curl-care routine:
01 | CONDITION + BUILD
Support the conditioned, hydrated foundation from which beautiful curls begin.
02 | CLEANSE + SOFTEN
Cleanse effectively without leaving curls feeling stripped and rough.
03 | SHIELD + PROTECT
Help protect the hair from heat and styling stress.
04 | DEFINE + HOLD
Encourage curl definition and provide flexible, touchable hold.
05 | RESET + CLARIFY
Periodically remove accumulated buildup and give curls a fresh start.
They're called pillars rather than steps for a reason. Curl care isn't a rigid five-step routine. Different curls—and different days—need different things.
Formulated for Real Curls in Real Humidity
Scilia is meticulously handcrafted for Florida humidity.
That isn't just a tagline.
Humidity affects how hair behaves, how curls hold their shape, how products perform, and how a formula that seems wonderful indoors can behave very differently once you walk outside.
So we formulate, test, adjust, and test again with the realities of curly hair—and our climate—in mind.
We don't choose an ingredient simply because it's trendy or because it looks impressive on the front of a bottle. We want to understand what it contributes to the formula and what job it's there to do.
Sometimes that means reformulating.
Sometimes it means waiting for a better ingredient.
And sometimes it means deciding a product simply isn't ready yet.
We're okay with that.
We're Building Scilia One Pillar at a Time
Our first two pillars—Curl Building Conditioner and Wash-Day Cleanser—are available now.
The remaining three pillars are in development.
We could rush to put five products on a shelf. We'd rather build five products we're proud to put the Scilia name on.
Scilia is still growing, and that's part of our story. Our customers aren't arriving after everything has already been created. You're here while we're building it.
We want to share the ingredient science, explain our formulation choices, talk honestly about what products can—and cannot—do, and help people understand their curls rather than simply telling them what to buy.
Because when you understand your hair, the routine starts making a lot more sense.
From Chaos to Curls
That's where Scilia began—and it's still the idea behind everything we're creating.
Not perfect curls.
Not identical curls.
Not curls forced into somebody else's definition of what curly hair is supposed to look like.
Just healthier-looking, softer, stronger, beautifully defined curls—and a system designed to help you understand how to care for them.
