Who it's for

Whether you're completely new to patchwork, returning to sewing after a break, or simply looking for some creative time for yourself, these workshops are designed to help you learn in a relaxed and supportive environment. No previous quilting experience is required.

These workshops have been specially designed for beginners and confident beginners. I'll guide you through each step, demonstrate every technique, and be on hand throughout the workshop to answer questions and offer individual help.

Everyone works at their own pace, and there are no silly questions.

How It Works

The Summer School consists of four individual three-hour workshops. Each session focuses on a different patchwork technique and a different project. There is a progression... You can either book individual workshops or save money by booking the complete Summer School.

The Summer School consists of four individual workshops, each lasting three hours.

Each workshop is designed to stand alone, so you're welcome to book just the projects that interest you.

However, if you attend all four sessions, you'll discover that they have also been carefully planned as a gentle introduction to patchwork and quilting. Each workshop introduces new techniques and builds on the skills you've learned previously, helping you grow in confidence while creating four beautiful projects to take home.

Tools and Equipment

During the workshops we'll be using:

  • Sewing machines
  • Rotary cutters
  • Quilting rulers
  • Self-healing cutting mats

Do please bring your own

If you don't own a sewing machine or rotary cutting equipment, please don't let that stop you from joining us.

A limited number of sewing machines and rotary cutting kits may be available to borrow during the workshops.

Please contact me before booking so I can reserve equipment for you if available.

And don't forget to bring

  • Basic sewing kit (pins or clips, fabric scissors, seam ripper, thread, etc.)
  • Your workshop fabrics
  • Any reading glasses you use for sewing
  • A notebook and pen if you'd like to make notes

Don't worry if you don't own every piece of equipment yet—many beginners don't!

Just get in touch before the workshop and I'll do my best to help.

Fabric Requirements

Requirements for each project are listed in the description

For the best results, please use 100% cotton quilting fabric for your projects.

Although polycotton fabrics are widely available, they are not recommended for patchwork and quilting because they:

  • Can be slippery and more difficult to cut accurately.
  • Stretch and distort more easily than quilting cotton.
  • Are harder to press crisp, flat seams.
  • May scorch or melt under the high temperatures needed for pressing.

If you're unsure what to buy, I'm always happy to help you choose suitable fabrics before the workshop.

I recommend buying fat quarter packs available from Hobbycraft and fabric shops

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need any quilting experience?

No. The Summer School is suitable for complete beginners.

Can I book just one workshop?

Yes. Each workshop is designed to stand alone, so you can choose the sessions that interest you most.

Is there a discount if I book all four?

Yes! Book the complete Summer School and enjoy a discounted price compared with booking each workshop separately.

Please get in touch before booking. A limited number of sewing machines may be available to borrow.

What should I wear?

Comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes are recommended. If you have long hair, please tie it back when using sewing machines.
