Believe in Your Own Vision

Have you ever been in such a creative flow state where you had so many ideas racing through your head all at once? I also bet every single one of those ideas excited you so much that you sat there and conjured up ways to do them all. Receiving a wave of ideas can be exhilarating, especially if you're at a point where you've been wanting to make a significant life change or create something new. Then all of a sudden, it rushes to you like flood.

What seems to be an exciting, inspirational moment can unexpectedly turn into a "get real" slap-in-the-face when you share your ideas with others. Even those closest to you may scoff at what they consider to be "pipe dreams". The harsh reality is: when it come to your biggest ideas, many will not understand. You have to be okay with that.

The vision you conceive is meant for YOU. That is why it is called a vision because whoever it is meant for, will be the one to see it clearly. Be patient, as it may be tough to really grasp this concept at first. Here are a few tips that can help you stand strong in your vision when others disregard it as unrealistic:

  • Start by releasing any negative feelings from the comments your received from others. Know that these people are coming from a place of love and it is not a reflection of their character. With that being said, you know what's best for you.

  • Capture your ideas in detail: write them down in a journal, create voice notes or log them into your phone/tablet.

  • Evaluate the ideas by assessing each one against your own passion, abilities, resources and network. Focus on the ones that align best with who you are and will bring the most personal fulfillment.

  • Create a Vision Board. This allows you to organize your dreams, goals and ideas in a visual way and keep them top of mind. Tip: place your vision board in an area where you will see it often and make time to reflect

  • Start using a goal planner or journal like the Vision Board Goals Planner. Using a planner regularly keeps you accountable when you are pursuing your ideas and allows you to be intentional. It also allows you to track your progress, identify obstacles and create viable solutions.

All of these steps are guidelines to help you. Choose the ones that works best for you. Remember, it is not your job to convince others to believe in your ideas when they tell you you're wrong. Make it your mission to honour your vision by proving yourself right.
