Etiquette 101
................
Do you want to be a successful 5-star host? If you do, you have to have a good idea of how to interact with guests. Understanding the characteristics of a 5-star host is extremely important in order to achieve your goal. You can accomplish this by understanding "Hosting Etiquette".
Hosting etiquette is a set of commonly accepted rules and practices that most host abide by. These rules are essential for the hosting community regardless of which part of the industry you are in. These rules ensure that everyone involved has a positive experience.
So what are the etiquette characteristic that 5 star host follow?
Communication
Your first interaction with your guest is through what? You got it communication. Whether you are communicating with your guest through a app, email, phone, or in person, the first interaction with them will either seal the deal or turn a guest completely off where they decide not to book with you regardless of how beautiful your place is or how perfect the location is.
With that being said you should do your best to make a good impression and:
- Be responsive
- Be polite
- Answer all of the guest question. (Do not be evasive) This will surely give your guests peace of mind.
Communicating with your guest doesn't end after getting the booking. Make sure you communicate with the guest:
- Before they arrive to make sure they received and under stand the check-in process.
- Upon arrival, by sending a warm welcome.
- During their stay, to make sure they don't need anything.
- Prior to departure to make sure they received and understand the check-out process.
House Rules
Notify guest of your house rules upfront. It is important to include them in your listing so that the guest can understand if your property is for them.
Welcoming
When you walk into a 5-star hotel, what is the 1st thing they do? You got it, they Welcome you into their establishment. Can you imagine waling into any place of business and they don't great you. That could make for a terrible experience. This is the same for when guest come to your property. So what makes for a good welcoming?
- Simply saying "Welcome
- Providing the guest with the most important need to know upon arrival such a wifi, how to locate the amenities, a link to your house manual ect.
Accommodating
Be accommodating to your guest. If you can allow them to check in early or check-out later, let them. If you can't accommodate a early check-in let them drop off their bags. If you can't accommodate a late check-out let them leave their bags.
Cleanliness
It doesn't mater if you take all of the above steps to help your guest have a great experience, if your property is not clean, your guest will complain. Who wants to get in the bed and see hair? Who wants to use towels with stains? Who wants to walk on floors that has grime? No one, so make sure that you work with cleaners that understand the importance of a clean property. Make your cleaners aware of your cleaning standards so that each and every guest stay in a place that is clean.
Conclusion
The goal is to make sure each guest leaves you a 5-star review. While you can do everything in your power to make a guest have a wonderful experience some guest will still be unhappy with something. However if you have the above hosting etiquettes in place you will receive more 5-star reviews then less.
