Hi there! I’m Joy Marier, a storyteller who believes in the magic of giggles, wagging tails, and big hearts. Before creating The Silly Mutts Tales, I spent years teaching foster and special-education children at Family Solutions, where I learned that every child—and every pup—has a story worth telling and valuable social-emotional skills to learn along the way.
Those experiences inspired Two Tails Are Better Than One – A Silly Mutts Tale (Young Pup Edition), a heartwarming story centered on social-emotional learning (SEL), responsibility, teamwork, and belonging. I’m excited to share that this newly refreshed edition will be re-launched on Amazon on March 23, 2026—National Puppy Day!
My rescue dog, Candy, became my muse with her goofy grins, kind heart, and unstoppable mission to chase squirrels. Thanks to her (and a few chewed-up socks), The Silly Mutts Tales were born—stories designed to help young readers learn important life lessons through humor, warmth, and relatable characters.
To support families, educators, and caregivers even further, a Parent & Teacher Guide will be released alongside Two Tails Are Better Than One. This companion guide offers practical tools, discussion questions, and activities that extend the book’s SEL lessons into homes and classrooms.
I live in Oregon, where I write, laugh, and take long walks with Candy—she calls it “field research.” With support from my husband, Terry Marier, M.C., whose background is in children’s therapy, these silly mutt adventures are thoughtfully crafted to spark conversations, build emotional skills, and bring families closer—one smile at a time.
