About Me

Storykate: Practical tools for curriculum planning for early childhood educators

Hi, I'm Kate — an early childhood educator, early childhood teacher and teacher’s teacher!

I help educators write better observations, plan effective curriculum through play, and bring nature pedagogy to life.

I have a background in Social and Political Science, Early Childhood (Bachelor and Master of Education), VET and Tertiary education (both face-to-face classroom teaching and online learning). I have worked in the early childhood profession for over 15 years in various positions: as a nanny, a playgroup coordinator, and a storyteller at the local library, eventually completed Certificate 3, Diploma, Bachelor and Masters of Early Childhood Education, and Graduate Certificate of research.

With time and gained experience, I enjoyed more leadership-like roles, such as an educational leader, trainer/ assessor, eLearning Advisor and unit coordinator. Every year I enjoy working as a relief ECT in different preschools and long day care centres to keep current.

I live in Australia and enjoy nature walks 🐞🦋🌱 and ocean swims🌊🪸🦑.

I love playing the piano and ukulele; singing with children and pre-service teachers; write poetry and silly songs. Making puppets and other teaching resources is another passion of mine. I am also a book nerd and read everything related to early childhood education and care.

Fantastic course. I have really enjoyed Kate’s descriptions of puppets and puppet making. She is vey insightful and delightful in her story telling with puppets. I am really inspired to utilise puppets in my daily practice and to make puppets with the children.

The puppet course is an engaging and valuable program designed for educators, parents, and caregivers looking to incorporate puppets into early childhood learning. This course effectively highlights the power of puppets as a teaching tool, fostering creativity, communication, and emotional development in young children. I highly recommend it. The course includes hands-on activities, allowing participants to create and use puppets effectively in storytelling and teaching.
