Happy New Year!
I hope you guys had a very Merry Christmas. This is the first day of a brand new year. God has been so kind and compassionate toward us. He has kept us another day and another year! We want to love and worship this Majestic King we call our God. So we’re starting off the year by talking about seeking Him.
The Bible lets us know that God wants our attention. He wants us to seek Him while we can here on earth. We don’t know the last day we’ll be on earth, so God encourages us to seek His face early and often. See I Thessalonians 5:17. Let’s face it, we live in a busy world, so seeking God must be a priority and intentional. So I’ve created this list for both you and me to keep us encouraged.
Below are 5 Benefits of Seeking God. Naturally, this is not a full list. There could be thousands of benefits to drawing close to God, but this can give us a good head start on beginning the year right in God’s presence and continuing that way throughout the year.
1. Closer Walk with God Brings Life, Long Life.
3 Incline your ear, and come unto me: hear, and your soul shall live; and I will make an everlasting covenant with you, even the sure mercies of David.
4 Behold, I have given him for a witness to the people, a leader and commander to the people. Isaiah 55:3, 4 KJV
14 Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him on high, because he has known My name.
15 He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honor him.
16 With long life I will satisfy him, And show him My salvation. Psalm 91:14 to 16 NKJV
2. Forgiveness of Sins.
Seek ye the Lord while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near:
Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the Lord, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon. Isaiah 55:6, 7 KJV
If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. I John 1:9 NKJV
3. God Reveals the Hidden Things; He Gives Understanding.
Evil men do not understand justice, But those who seek the Lord understand all. Proverbs 28:5 NKJV
Thus says the Lord who made it, the Lord who formed it to establish it (the Lord is His name): ‘Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.’ Jeremiah 33:2, 3 NKJV
4. Blessings, Provision: No Lack for Anything Good.
The young lions lack and suffer hunger; But those who seek the Lord shall not lack any good thing. Psalm 34:10 NKJV
For the Lord God is a sun and shield; The Lord will give grace and glory; No good thing will He withhold From those who walk uprightly. Psalm 84:11 NKJV
1 Now it shall come to pass, if you diligently obey the voice of the Lord your God, to observe carefully all His commandments which I command you today, that the Lord your God will set you high above all nations of the earth. 2 And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, because you obey the voice of the Lord your God:
3 Blessed shall you be in the city, and blessed shall you be in the country. Deuteronomy 28:1 to 3 NKJV
5. God’s Love: He Gives Authority, Honor, and Riches for Diligently Seeking Him.
16 By me princes rule, and nobles, All the judges of the earth.
17 I love those who love me, And those who seek me diligently will find me.
18 Riches and honor are with me, Enduring riches and righteousness. Proverbs 8:16 to 18 NKJV
Therefore the Lord God of Israel says: ‘I said indeed that your house and the house of your father would walk before Me forever.’ But now the Lord says: ‘Far be it from Me; for those who honor Me I will honor, and those who despise Me shall be lightly esteemed. I Samuel 2:30 NKJV
6. Bonus: Strength.
5 Blessed is the man whose strength is in You, Whose heart is set on pilgrimage.
6 As they pass through the Valley of Baca, They make it a spring; The rain also covers it with pools.
7 They go from strength to strength; Each one appears before God in Zion. Psalm 84:5 to 7 NKJV
14 For this reason I bow my knees to the Father [a]of our Lord Jesus Christ, 15 from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, 16 that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, 17 that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height— 19 to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. Ephesians 3:14 to 16 NKJV
God has commanded us to pray and seek His face, but we draw close to Him because we want Him to draw nigh to us. It’s a privilege to be in His presence and experience the anointing. See James 4:8.
Through the Old Testament Covenant [see Galatians 3:29] and the New Covenant based on the blood of Jesus Christ, we possess a very rich spiritual heritage. See Ephesians 1:3 to 6. Let’s keep the momentum going as we seek God all the days of our lives.
Blessings,
Tanda
