Growing in Faith.

Introduction.

The Bible says that God has given all people the measure of faith. The Word informs us in this Bible verse that God didn't leave anyone out because it says, "God has dealt to every man the measure of faith."

"For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith." Romans 12:3 KJV. Bold and underline added for emphasis.

We know that faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen (Hebrews 11:1), but what is the measure?

The measure is what God knows we can handle, how we'll use that measure of faith, and the amount of grace needed for that measure to be used in accordance with our purpose, God-given assignment on earth, and in alignment with our gifts, skills, talents and abilities. Romans 12:3

Important Thoughts.

  • We can't even get saved without faith. It takes faith to believe that Jesus Christ died on the cross for our sins and to accept His atoning sacrifice.
  • It takes faith to walk with Christ daily.
  • God uses the faith He placed in us to enable us to hear His voice and live a life of obedience.
  • We can't please God without faith.

We Go From Faith to Faith.

The Bible tells us in Romans 1:17b that the just shall live by faith. Faith grows as we spend time in prayer, the Word, and basically getting to know God day by day. This growth happens over our lifetimes. We don't skip grades in God. As we take time to read, study, and understand God's will and His ways, we grow in faith. The main way we hear from God and grow in faith is through the Bible.

"So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God." Hebrews 10:17 NKJV

Growing in faith is like exercising muscles. The more we use our faith, the more we grow. Another words, we hear the Word, we exercise our trust in God because of the Word we heard. Then we grow in faith.

In Romans 1:17, the verse "from faith to faith" refers to the revelation of God's righteousness by the Apostle Paul. This expression describes how faith develops from first believing in Christ to finally acknowledging His righteousness. It highlights that faith is the start, middle, and finish of a believer's journey and stresses how faith remains constant and continuous throughout the Christian life. Although the statement has been interpreted in a number of ways, it is commonly understood to signify that faith is the first step toward the continuous and thorough revelation of God's righteousness.
