Hello Everyone,
I truly hope you are having the best day you possibly can. Lately I've been doing a lot of thinking and reflecting — on my life, on life in general. And honestly, with the way things are right now, it's kind of hard not to.
Gas prices are through the roof. Food costs more than rent at this point. Schools don't feel safe anymore — shootings, bullying, teachers crossing lines they have no business crossing. And churches, the places that were supposed to be our safe haven? Even those aren't always what they used to be. It is extremely easy to get angry, bitter, anxious, disconnected — even hopeless. So how do people stay positive? Shoot, better yet — how do I stay positive and keep moving?
That question got me thinking... none of this is really new for me.
I have always had to worry about food, money, violence, hate, being uncomfortable, losing everything and starting completely over — for myself and my family. With the abuse and injustice I've had to bear, I've worked hard not to let it make me bitter. Did it get to me sometimes? Yes. It even landed me in the behavioral unit a time or two — but that's a story for another day.
So what can you do to make sure the weight of the world doesn't crush your spirit and steal your happiness?
I'm glad you asked.
After doing a lot of reflecting on my own life, I realized what kept me going even when I had every reason to stop and give up. What kept me from turning to substances just to escape this world — no judgment here, because I drink, and I believe in living life for yourself and no one else. What kept me from crossing over that mental line, even though I played jump rope with it more times than I can count. 😄
Gratitude.
Gratitude kept me pushing, even in my darkest moments.
When I was 13 years old, I prayed — to God, to the universe, to whoever was listening — that if I was allowed and privileged enough to see 18, every single day after that would be a blessing I wouldn't take for granted.
I am now 40 years old.
20+ years with my husband. Six awesome kids. Four beautiful grandkids. An associate's degree. All of my kids graduated high school. One is serving in the army. I got to watch one of my children get married. And I am blessed every single day to watch my family continue to grow.
By choosing to focus on the good — and knowing that every day resets after 24 hours — the hard things become manageable. Not easy. But manageable.
So celebrate the little things. Give thanks for each day — the good days for being good, and the hard days for the lessons they carry.
And if you need help finding the good, I'm here. I've also attached the link to my store below, where you can find worksheets and workbooks designed to help you help yourself. 💛
