I learned to garden before I learned to explain it.

My father was a commercial farmer. At home, we always kept a family garden. That was my first classroom.

I’ve been gardening since 2002. Six years ago, I began growing food in a garden of my own. Today, I garden in Folsom, California, Zone 9b.

Professionally, I’m an aerospace engineer and have worked with established aerospace companies and startups. Gardening is my other enduring passion.

Aerospace engineering and horticulture are different disciplines, but the analytical habits carry across: define the problem precisely, trace claims to their evidence, examine assumptions, distinguish what is known from what remains uncertain, and communicate the result clearly.

That combination—two generations of gardening perspective and an engineer’s approach to complex information—is the foundation of The Gardener’s Muse.

The Gardener’s Muse exists as a counterpoint to vague, source-free gardening tips. You deserve to know not only what to do, but why the recommendation may work, when it applies, and how confident you should be in it.

OUR RESEARCH PROCESS

1. Observe the problem. Start with what the gardener can actually see in the plant, soil, weather, and growing conditions.

2. Trace the evidence. Examine relevant peer-reviewed research, university Extension publications, government resources, and documented field trials.

3. Check the context. Identify important assumptions and explain when findings are location-dependent, cultivar-specific, mixed, or limited.

4. Translate it clearly. Turn complex information into visual guidance and a sensible next step for the everyday home gardener.

We don’t ask you to trust a tip simply because it sounds authoritative. We help you understand the evidence, limitations, and reasoning behind the recommendation.
