NBCOT Study Tips

NBCOT Study Tips

🔸Create a Study Schedule: Determine the length of time you will dedicate to study and develop a study schedule that allocates specific time slots for studying, breaks, and leisure. Find a premade study schedule to help you plan out your studying topics.

(I’ve created a 6 week study schedule - find in Payhip website)

🔸Study in intervals: Break your study time into intervals (e.g. setting a timer for 1 hour of focused work followed by a 15-minute break). Turn your phone on Do Not Disturb during the focused study time to eliminate distractions.

🔸Healthy lifestyle: Prioritize self care – ensure you are getting sufficient sleep, regular exercise, and a balanced diet to support your overall well being and cognitive function.

🔸Utilize mnemonics: Develop mnemonics (acronyms, rhymes, associations, or visual cues) to remember complex terms, sequences, etc. Find tiktok/Instagram reels for a visual aid. Mnemonics can be a fun and effective memory aid.

🔸Podcasts and Youtube: Listen to OT podcasts or YouTube videos related to the subjects. This can be an effective way to absorb information while you are on the go and broaden your understanding of each topic. (OT Miri, OT Exam Prepper, The OT Flourish, The Daily Occupation, Create flashcards)

🔸Create flashcards: for quick review of key concepts, definitions, and important details. Regular revision helps cement info from short term to long term memory. Use paper flashcards or Quizlet.

🔸Practice questions: Use AOTA or NBCOT study prep for past exam questions. Both resources have short quizzes and practice exams.

🔸Seek support on Social Media: Connect with other OTs on social media to seek guidance and lived experiences. The OT community is growing on social media, use it to your advantage. Many OTs are more than willing to help.

🔸Organize study notes: Create a filing system that keeps your study materials, notes, and resources organized and easy to access to minimize stress and save time.
