Questions I Ask to Build Rapport With My Patients

Building rapport with patients is crucial for fostering trust, improving communication, and ultimately enhancing the quality of care. It leads to better patient outcomes, increased satisfaction, and a more positive healthcare experience. When patients trust their healthcare providers, they are more likely to follow treatment plans, leading to better health outcomes and improved management of their chronic conditions.

Here is a list of questions I commonly use to build rapport with my adult patients:

  • What did you do for a living?

  • What are some things you enjoy doing?

  • Do you have any kids, grandkids, and/or pets?

  • What are your goals?

  • Are you familiar with Occupational Therapy?

  • What type of music do you like?

  • How do you spend your time?

  • Have you done much traveling?

  • What’s your favorite food?

  • Are you a dog or cat person?

  • Are you married? How long? What’s your secret to a long marriage?
