Hygge with children.

Can you have a Hygge home with children?

Definitely!!

By bringing Hygge into your home and life you are creating a calm environment for everyone and making memories for your children.

By being outside children learn to play and learn in nature by slowing down and noticing simple small change around them.

Using their senses allows the children to learn about seasons, the wildlife, the weather and their own instinct to explore.

Bring nature into the home too to enhance their learning.  Bark, pine cones, stones, moss, sticks and twigs, all of which are free and can be explored but can also be added to play with small world characters.

A calm environment of less clutter, soft furnishings and lighting, cozy reading nooks and minimal toys out helps children to feel safe, calm and relaxed.

Talking about ours and their own feelings and emotions and the need for selfcare allows children to understand that it’s ok to be upset and learn how to deal with their feelings like talking them through with an adult and learn about taking time out to just be them.

Have a spa day at home together with a mini meditation or yoga session talking about the importance of looking after our body both physically and mentally.

Bake together! Biscuits and cakes to enjoy with a hot chocolate whilst playing a family game.

Most importantly, it’s finding time to do things together as a family, making memories no matter how small they are.  A walk, a film or simply reading a book together.

And you don’t always need to take photos of this time as this can take away the fun while it is happening ‘in the moment’.

Be present, slow down and be mindful.  Teach children to do this too.
