Mindfulness.
Hygge is about slowing down and being in the moment.
So, is your ‘mind full’ or are you ‘mindful’?
If your mind is full, there is a lot going on and you can’t enjoy the simple things and slow down.
Being mindful is noticing what’s around you, slowing you down.
When was the last time you were actually aware of what’s around you or what you are going?
The trouble is, we’re very good at multitasking which is great sometimes.
But have you ever done a few things and then realise ‘how did I just do that?’ As you were doing something else at the same time.
When we multitask, yes we get things done but we haven’t actually focussed solely on each task.
So, set yourself a challenge!
Find something simple which you do EVERYDAY like washing up, cleaning your teeth, taking a shower and don’t let your mind ‘plan tomorrow’ or think about ‘what’s for tea’ but really focus and notice on what you’re actually doing NOW.
How does the water feel?
Notice the scent filling your nose.
Are you focussing on cleaning each tooth individually?
Do it regularly and you really will start to slow down and notice detail and become aware of your senses too which you may have missed.
Get outside and do it too.
Stop and really watch that insect crawling along a leaf.
Lie on the grass and watch the clouds float by.
Watch the leaves falling.
Listen to the trickle of the stream you might pass. Stop and actually watch it. Listen to it. Observe the ripples it might make.
Take your time and don’t rush.
