I have two series coming to The Rebel Lore Vault by the end of February: Chronicles of Rondure and Sentrys of Terrene. Chronicles of Rondure is a borderline grimdark dystopian military science fantasy, and it's ideal reading after you dive into Books I and II of my dark paranormal fantasy series, Catenarian Chronicles, and Books I-III of my military science fantasy, Elementals of Nordica.
As for Sentrys of Terrene? It's also one to read after Catenarian Chronicles and Elementals, especially if you're a fan of post-apocalyptic dystopian fiction with elemental magic. With both works coming to the Vault, I wanted to share some much-needed cheat sheets that you'll also find in the books, themselves, starting with Sentrys.
And yes, it's spelled Sentrys on purpose.
Where This Story Fits
Sentrys of Terrene takes place in the World of Terrene, during the events depicted in Elementals of Nordica.
Where Elementals explores Terrene following an era of fractured power, ancient magic, and competing factions, Sentrys of Terrene shows what the world becomes after centralized authority “wins.”
This story is not about the rise of control, but life inside it.
The World of Terrene (At a Glance)
Terrene is a world shaped by:
- Ancient Elemental (Sentry) forces
- Powerful Orders claiming moral authority
- Cycles of war, purge, and “liberation”
- Conflict between self-governance and central control
By the time Sentrys of Terrene begins, much of Terrene exists under the rule of the People’s Republic of Vranom, a society that claims to have ended war, poverty, and inequality.
The Power Structures
The People’s Republic of Vranom is a highly centralized state that:
- Assigns careers, meals, schedules, and education
- Monitors civilians through government-issued devices
- Claims to act solely in the interest of collective survival
- Teaches that individuality is dangerous and destabilizing
Vranom insists it has achieved peace, equality, and safety. Dissent is treated as ignorance—or corruption.
The Enforcers
Reds
Lower-ranking state enforcers tasked with:
- Monitoring compliance
- Handling minor infractions
- Assisting with arrests and interrogations
Rangers
Elite military enforcers who:
- Carry advanced weaponry
- Patrol districts and borders
- Suppress resistance with force
All weapons belong to the state. Civilians are unarmed.
The Venn Order
The Venn Order is Vranom’s most powerful arm.
They claim responsibility for:
- Ending the old wars
- Purging the former ruling Sentry Order
- Maintaining “peace” through oversight and force
Members of the Venn Order wield elemental abilities and hold authority above standard law. Their actions are never questioned, and never publicly scrutinized.
The Sentrys (According to Official History)
State-approved education teaches that the Sentry Order:
- Was corrupt and power-hungry
- Used religion and magic to dominate Terrene
- Caused widespread war and suffering
- Forced Vranom to enact a necessary Purge
Any traits resembling Sentry ability are treated as dangerous abnormalities. This version of history is… incomplete.
Sentry Ability (Simplified)
Some individuals can manipulate one of the nine elements.
- Sentry ability is rare
- Unregulated ability is considered a threat
- The state monitors for signs of manifestation
- Those discovered are often taken from their families
Sentry power is not inherently good or evil. What matters is who controls it and why.
The Insurgency
Despite official claims, war never truly ended.
The Insurgency is a loose resistance network that:
- Operates in secrecy
- Challenges Vranom’s narrative
- Attempts to dismantle state weapons and infrastructure
Warning!
This story is intentionally oppressive in tone.
It depicts:
- Surveillance as routine
- Control disguised as care
- Compliance rewarded over truth
- Curiosity treated as danger
A Final Note to the Reader
This is not a story about instant rebellion.
It is about:
- Slow awakenings
- Questioning forbidden ideas
- The cost of safety without freedom
- What it means to live in a “perfect” system
Welcome to Terrene.
