Hello and welcome!
Welcome to the Shed, I’m Wendy — a shepherdess, author, and rural storyteller exploring the inner lives of sheep. My work is rooted in years spent walking with the flock, watching how sheep think, choose, remember and build trust. What I’ve learned is simple but transformative: sheep are far more intelligent, perceptive and emotionally attuned than most people realise.
My book, Walking With Sheep, grew out of these quiet observations — the small moments in fields and sheds that reveal how sheep understand their world. Here, I share those moments with you: stories of memory, emotion, belonging and the subtle ways sheep communicate with each other and with us.
If you’re interested in sheep behaviour and cognition, drawn to pastoral life or simply love the gentle intelligence of animals, you’re in the right place, this is a space for slowing down, paying attention and seeing sheep as they truly are.
Through Walking With Sheep and my ongoing field notes, I aim to change how the world sees sheep. They are not passive or simple; they are attentive, perceptive animals with rich social lives and a deep sense of belonging. My writing and photography share these truths gently, through moments gathered in fields, sheds and seasons.
If you’re curious about the minds of sheep, or simply love the ways of rural life, you’re very welcome here, Thank you for joining the flock and I as we make our way through the seasons.
