Cold Carp Session – Winter Fishing in Tough Conditions 🎣❄️

Cold Carp Session – Winter Fishing in Tough Conditions 🎣❄️

Welcome to this short winter carp session.

Winter fishing can sometimes be tough, and this day was definitely one of those cold ones. The temperature was only 3°C, but with the wind it felt closer to -3°C. A northeast wind (force 4) made it even colder, and my hands were almost frozen while fishing.

Despite the cold conditions, I decided to keep my setup simple and effective.

The Bait Approach

For this session I used:

  • Small pellets as feed
  • A pink 6 mm wafter as hookbait
  • Two maggots on the hook for extra attraction

This is a method I often prefer when fishing in colder water. Smaller baits can work very well in winter because carp tend to feed more carefully and less aggressively.

Every now and then I threw a small handful of pellets onto the spot to keep some attraction in the area without overfeeding the fish.

The Catch

Winter sessions often require patience, and this one was no different. After about an hour and a half, the rod finally came to life.

Soon after, I landed a beautiful small carp, a real cold-water fighter. Even though it wasn’t the biggest fish, catching a carp in these freezing conditions always feels like a big reward.

Standing there with cold hands and a strong wind blowing across the water, that moment made the whole session worth it.

Final Thoughts

Winter carp fishing can be challenging, but with the right approach it can still produce great moments. Keeping things simple, using small bait, and feeding lightly can make a big difference when the water is cold.

And when a carp finally comes up during a freezing winter session, it always feels extra special. 🎣❄️
