Winter Carp Within 5 Minutes – A Beautiful February Session 🎣
In early February 2026, I had a short but unforgettable fishing session that shows how surprising winter carp fishing can be. Many anglers believe that carp hardly feed during the winter, but sometimes the opposite happens. With the right conditions and a simple bait approach, you can catch fish very quickly.
This session was the perfect example.
The Conditions
The water I was fishing was around 1.5 meters deep. In the days leading up to the session, the weather had been relatively mild for the time of year, with temperatures around 8°C (46°F).
These slightly warmer winter days can make a big difference. Shallow water warms up faster than deeper water, which often makes carp more active for short periods. When this happens, carp will move around and start searching for food.
Shallow areas can therefore be a great place to target carp during the winter months.
The Bait Setup
For this session, I kept things simple but effective. My bait mix consisted of:
- Crushed bread
- Small sweetcorn kernels
- A 6 mm yellow wafter as hookbait
The crushed bread creates a small cloud of particles in the water, which attracts fish and keeps them interested in the feeding area. The small pieces of sweetcorn add extra scent and small food items that carp like to search for.
The yellow 6 mm wafter was used as the hookbait. Because of its bright color and balanced buoyancy, it stands out slightly above the bottom, making it easier for carp to notice.
Small, attractive baits often work very well during winter sessions.
The Bite
After casting out and placing my rod down, something happened that every angler hopes for.
Within five minutes, my rod was already going off.
I had never caught a winter carp that quickly before. The fish clearly found the bait almost immediately. After a short but enjoyable fight, I was able to safely land the carp.
Moments like this are exactly why fishing is so enjoyable.
Winter Carp Fishing Tips
This session proves that winter carp fishing can definitely be successful if you approach it the right way. A few useful tips:
- Look for shallow water that warms up faster
- Use small and subtle baits
- Keep feeding light and simple
- Take advantage of milder winter days
Sometimes You Just Need a Bit of Luck
Fishing always involves a bit of luck. Sometimes you can wait hours without any action, and other times a fish takes your bait almost instantly.
This time, everything came together perfectly: the weather, the spot, and the bait.
And when you catch a winter carp within five minutes, the session already feels like a big success. ✌️🎣
