There are a total of 44 registered mountains in Sumatra including the mountain range of Bukit Barisan; the legendary Krakatau which is in the Sunda Strait but is under the administration of the Province of Lampung, southernmost of Sumatra.
04 mountains in KEPRI (or the Province of Riau Archipelago that stretches from Batam-Bintan & the surrounding islands - to northward in the South China Sea where the Archipelagos of Anambas and Natuna is).
If we are to exclude those 04 in KEPRI and Krakatau which lies in the Sunda Strait, then it would only be technically 39 registered mountains (including Bukit Barisan) on the Island of Sumatra itself.
Having been to Aceh before, it's interesting to note too of Aceh, that has 07 registered mountains, with Gunung Leuser as the well-known amongst them, and 27 in the Province of West Sumatra.
Apart from those registered mountains, there are other lesser known mountains in Sumatra; thus it could be more than those 39 registered, well-known amongst them.
......and since we have climbed Gunung Kerinci in the borders of the Provincial Jambi and West Sumatra, it's time now to plan out climbing more mountains there.
Maybe climbing seven mountains within a month or a break of 02 weeks period each (or average 03-04 climbs in each period) since the overland journey from one mountain to the other, from province to province in Sumatra - could be a great distance to cover, some taking a very long-hours journey.
Whether that is possible or not, first and foremost - it must come with a desire - a spark of want - to start it off initially.
Next then,
will be the actual planning.
Few mountains are already in mind for the climb
(from south to north):
• Gunung Dempo (3159m)
South Sumatra
• Gunung Masurai (2980m)
Jambi
• Gunung Tujuh (2735m)
Jambi
• Gunung Marapi (2891m)
West Sumatra
• Gunung Talamau (2913m)
West Sumatra
• Gunung Kemiri (3314m)
Aceh
• Gunung Leuser (3404m)
Aceh
Let's see when and where we will begin first, and gradually climb each to successful summiting to their respective peaks!!
Let's this be the 2022/23 hiking goals in Sumatra, Indonesia."
