There’s No Such Thing As Failure - Overcoming Rejection

Yo, composers! Welcome to another edition of the Media Composer Vault!

Let’s talk about something we all face: rejection. It’s not fun, it’s not glamorous, but it’s as much a part of the job as writing music. So, let’s dive in and reframe the way we think about it.

Rejection: The Unwritten Job Description

You wanted that gig. Didn’t get it.

You pitched for that cool opportunity. They passed.

Been there, done that, and bought the “Why Me?” T-shirt.

The truth? Rejection is just part of the journey. You’ll face it more often than you’ll land jobs. Statistically, it can take around 100 emails to get one response. (Yep, I’ve got the numbers to back that up—50 emails, one reply. Winning?)

It’s tough, I know. Pouring your heart and soul into pitches and getting nothing in return feels like a punch to the gut. But here’s the thing: it’s not the end of the world—it’s a step forward.

Shift Your Perspective

I live by this saying: “There’s no such thing as failure, only lessons.”

Every unanswered email isn’t a failure; it’s a learning opportunity. You sent 100 emails? Amazing! Now you’re better at pitching than you were before. You gained experience that’ll help you refine your approach.

Rejection isn’t a stop sign—it’s a nudge to try again, smarter. Keep knocking on doors, because eventually, one will open. Stop knocking, and you’re guaranteeing they’ll stay shut. Simple math, really.

A Marathon, Not a Sprint

Here’s the reality: this career is a long game. The composers who succeed are the ones who stick with it. They don’t quit when things get tough—they learn, adapt, and keep moving forward.

Next time rejection comes knocking, try this:

See the lesson, not the loss.

Celebrate the effort, not the outcome.

Keep pushing, because success is closer than you think.

Share, Learn, Grow

If this resonates with you—or if you’re still struggling with rejection—let me know. I’d love to hear your thoughts or help in any way I can. And hey, share this newsletter with anyone who could use a little perspective shift (not just composers—rejection doesn’t discriminate).

Thanks for reading this far—it means a lot. Seriously.

Keep composing, keep learning, and keep growing.
