I'm writing this to create a timestamp of this moment. In less than a week, my debut as an author in the anthology If Walls Could Talk: Stories of Surviving Childhood Trauma will be published. Myself and 14 other courageous women contributed to this project to share our experiences in hopes of giving others courage to walk in their truth.
This process has stretched me in so many ways—it's exposed old wounds and shown me how much I've grown. But it's also made me realize how much more growth there is to come!
My chapter in the anthology is titled "Wounds of Rejection." I talk about how childhood trauma produced lies of rejection and abandonment that played out in my relationships—and how I had to learn to face those lies head-on and replace them with The Word of God in order to heal from the trauma of my past.
I have to be honest: I've been dreading having this conversation with my mom about the book. I feel like it's respectful to give her a heads up, but I keep avoiding it because… well…
I guess I'm afraid of her reaction and how that might affect me. But here's what else I know:
I am not responsible for other peoples reactions/feelings and no one is responsible for mine.
We overcome the enemy by the blood of the lamb and the words of our testimony. Rev 12:11
For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the world authorities, against the powers f this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realm. Ephesians 6:12
People won't always understand why you have to do "what you have to do." They will try and make you feel guilty. If a parent doesn't support their child, it's very difficult. Facing rejection from the ones you love is one of the hardest things any person has to go through. It takes courage to be different than everyone else though. I hope you are able to read our stories and take away something in it for yourself.
