The Reality of Travelling as a Neurodivergent Woman

About Me

Hi, I’m Kelly | Neurospicy Wanderer & Travel Writer, lover of golden hour in the outback and slow travel from the desert to the sea. Currently based in Mparntwe in the NT.

I’ve been lusting after travel ever since I can remember, poring over faraway, pastel-coloured maps in huge vintage National Geographic books and dreaming of unknown treasures from my bedroom floor. In my late teens, to my Mum’s horror, I ran away to the Northern Territory to find the giant waterlilies of Kakadu. Later, I travelled by cargo ferries to climb volcanoes, trek through thick jungles, and run from Komodo dragons in remote Indonesia.

After many years of global travel, somehow I blinked, and between making school lunches and founding a business, Alice Springs in remote Central Australia had become my unlikely home. What began fourteen years ago as a family sabbatical turned into a lifelong love affair with this land. There is a specific way the light hits the ranges here and a silence in the desert that stays with you.

After years of living and working across the NT, I’ve realised the best parts of this wild place aren’t the ones on everyone else's feed. I’m here for the dark starry skies, the burnt orange sunsets, and the whispers of the wind as it carries along ancient song lines.

My background in tourism, community & disability work and narrative based counselling has shifted my perspective. I look for the preferred story, seeking out the light, the resilience, and the deep, strong narratives of a place rather than just the curated spots. I believe every community has a deeper strength waiting to be heard if we take the time to listen.

I’ve spent years gathering local secrets, from off-grid spots to my favourite dog-friendly campsites, and I’m here to share those tips as a friend. These guides are designed for those dreaming of the road less travelled across Australia and Oceania—focusing on sensory-friendly travel for neurodivergent women and dog-friendly road trips.

I think travel is about finding the space to breathe out, drink in the silence, and sit in the beauty, not copying social media 'influencers' to wind up sitting on top of each other.

As a passionate traveller, ATEC certified consultant & disability advocate this blog is my tiny way of supporting a social movement for inclusive & accessible travel.

My passion project is to help you create your own memories of these ancient sacred lands while inspiring a tiny social movement for inclusive travel and promoting tourism that truly empowers the remote communities that welcome us.

Hope to see you out there!
